Big Portage History
We are attempting to gather a history of Big Portage Lake from all of the riparian owners. In the June 2008 we asked everyone to send a written history of your property – a few resolute individuals have done so but the majority has not.
So once again PLEASE write down a history of your property. Below are some questions to get you started … but feel free to embellish, relate funny stories and help us gather and maintain the “oral history” of our beautiful lake and the people who treasured for generations.
History questions:
1. Who in your family was the first to come to BPL?
2. What year did they arrive?
3. What was the lake like then?
4. How was/is the property used? Fishing cabin, hunting lodge, summer cabin?
5. Did your family member buy vacant land or a house? What year was that?
6. Do you know the prior owner (s)?
7. Do you know the prior history of your property?
8. How much time did your family spend on BPL?
9. If your family is not the original owners of your property – do you know who was?
10. How many generations of your family have enjoyed BPL?
The information we gather will be shared with the Land O’ Lakes historical society as a growing part of the area’s history.
Please take time to write down the history of your property so that it can be preserved for the generations to come who will enjoy Big Portage Lake.
